You could try two main sheets instead. We have a mail sheet to each rear quarter. This of course does not work when the boom is right out but gives great control most of the time.
Yes thanks for that. We have a traveller and tend to lock it of on the boom side when we are going down wind . Touch wood we have never had a crash gybe, and rarely sail by the Lee except in light winds also straight down wind is also rare, a preventer rig is easy to fit when the boom is right out but protecting the rig with some sort of boombrake seems a good all round security feature. I just cannot get my head around a good safe way to fit one . Our nearly full width dog house limits the easy options as does our roller reefing which prevents any mid boom tranklments
