Inverters

edited March 2018 in General
Hello everyone, I have just acquired an inverter from Aleck, it’s quite a bit larger then any of the inverters I have used in the past. I would like to hear from those of you that have inverters on there boats and any tips or advice in installation and using. I have 3 x 100 amp/hour batteries and I think it’s an 80 amp solar panel. With a Yamaha 9.9 outboard giving a charge of 8/10 amps. The only a/c item I have used on the boat in the past is a coffee maker. Any comments please..Bob

The inverter you have is capable of delivering 2000 watts/hour which is about 8 amps at 240 volts.  Your three batteries will for a very short while cope with that but you have to realise that the current draw down from your batteries at that rate would be about 160 amps.  Smaller loads obviously draw down a proportionately less load.

Make sure when connecting to the boat's circuitry that shore power cannot possibly be connected at the same time as to do so will burn the inverter out.

We fitted an inverter from Aleck last year we have 5/6 batteries 2 are 200 amp but havent used the inv much yet .Have used a few times for microwave with no problems but we dont have much of a mains power requirement. We have 160 watt alternator and a small solar panal 20 watts.
