MAP Display Instructions

edited March 2016 in CCA Instructions
We hope you like our Map display.
It options to display Navionics "Nautical" or "Sonar" charts as well as  "Map" or "Satellite" selection boxes.

NEW ICONS:
As part of this upgrade, we have removed the old buttons for saving position etc, and replaced them with a small set of Icons on the right of the display. These allow you to "Center on your Boat Pin", "Update your Boat Pin location to your current location", "Save the current Boat Pin position", and "Go to the full screen display". We hope that these icons are reasonably self explanatory, but the picture below shows which icon is which.
When you Save your Boat Position, it is a good idea to reload the page just to check that position is stored correctly.
If you are using a slow connection, use the old "Map" as the NauticalCharts and SonarCharts do take quite a bit of data and can be slow to load and display. Satellite images of course are also slow to load and use lots of data..

Please note that the Navionics charts are Not to be used for Navigation.
We hope that you will find them very interesting.

We have found that some old Android Phones, using their original browsers, do not work well with this upgrade, but that downloading a more (and free) modern browser allows them to see the charts properly. Contact us if you need more details.

I think this is a great improvement and we are so indebted to you and your son James for the continued work you both put in to creating such a useful tool for the Association Members.

If you find you cannot see the map on your Android 2.2 or earlier phone or tablet, I recommend downloading and using the "UC Browser". This is free and I have found that it works with our website and shows the new maps perfectly.

I just updated to the latest UC browser and the map stopped working...
If this affects you, the previous Android UC browser can be found by googling "UC browser old versions..."
I re-installed the previous version (10.4.1.565) (download link), and the map is now working again...
Lesson.. Avoid installing updates if nothing is broken....

Just a bit more information.. If you are using a limited internet connection, note that the Navionics maps are relatively big, and therefore slower to load than the 'MAP' option, which is less detailed.
Also, if using the Update boat position icon, note that this tries to find where you are by using the phone /tablet internal navigation features. If your phone/tablet does not have GPS, then it may give wrong positional data. In this case it's best to just move the pin by hand to your position. (And do not forget to press the 'save position' icon afterwards!)
