Hi Dagnall Having replaced in 2020, the 2004 Yamaha 9.9 high thrust extra long shaft on our Solaris Sunbeam 24, with the latest 9.9 model with the same specs, I would say, for similar sized Cats like the Catalac 8m, this is by far the best choice of outboard, for reliability, thrust when you need it, fuel economy, weight, and quietness. Any bigger engine for a small catamaran brings increased weight in the stern, and not least a significant price increase.. Our engine performed faultlessly during our month long cruise in Devon this season, and because of lack of wind for much of our cruising, we relied on motor power, especially to meet tidal windows. Keeping her fuel spotlessly clean with in line filter and also filtering as the fuel goes into the tank, is a thing we try and maintain, as advised by our Yamaha agent and service team. Also flushing out the cooling system with fresh water every time we leave the boat.. Regards Simon
