Yes, you are right, I had to get an SD card.<div>So, the process went as follows:</div><div>Insert a 4 GB SD card in the chart plotter, and then turn it on. This writes a small file to the SD card. </div><div>Turn the chart plotter off and take the SD card home.</div><div>Download and install Garmin Express on to the PC.</div><div>Insert the SD card in the PC and open Garmin Express.</div><div>Select the option to check availability of updates. The file written to the SD card is used to determine what you currently have.</div><div>If there is an update available, then pay for it (£49.95), and download to the SD card.</div><div>Insert the SD card in the chart plotter and turn on, System information will show that the installed charts are 2012, with updates to 2017.</div><div>The SD card needs to stay in the chart plotter in order to use the updates. </div>
